Slabbed Coins

When it comes to slabbed coins there are only two companies which I trust. They are PCGS and NCG based in the USA and use the Sheldon grading system which is a numerical scale (1-70).

In Australia you will generally find dealers favour an adjectival grading system (good, Fine, Very Fine and so on) which is not right or wrong, simply different from the US system.

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is a highly regarded third party grading service founded in 1985 which has encapsulated and graded tens of millions of coins.

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) is a similarly well known third party grading service founded in 1987 which also services collectors of ancient coinage with a grading system which rates coins on a 1-5 scale.
