The 1802 Batavian Republic Gulden was the official currency of the short-lived Batavian Republic, established in 1795. This Dutch state emerged after the French revolutionaries overthrew the Dutch Republic. The Batavian Republic was founded by a group of Dutch Patriots, including influential figures such as Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck and Pieter Vreede. It aimed to introduce democratic reforms, abolish hereditary privileges, and establish a modern state.
