The Australian 5 cent coin, introduced in 1966, features an unchanged reverse design depicting an echidna. In 2016, the obverse design was modified to commemorate the 50th anniversary of decimal currency, while the echidna on the reverse remained constant. Initial 1966 coins were minted in London, subsequent production has occurred at various mints, including the Royal Australian Mint, Royal Mint in Llantrisant, and Royal Canadian Mint.
