The aptly named birds of paradise are native to northeastern Australia and Papua New Guinea. Known for their dramatic, brightly coloured plumage displayed as part of a flamboyant courtship ritual, they have some of the most magnificent mating spectacles in the bird kingdom.

Bird of Paradise Design

The coin’s reverse depicts an exceptionally detailed bird of paradise holding its head high while arching its wings forward in a stunning display of its plumage. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN BIRD OF PARADISE 1OZ 9999 SILVER’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
