This Japanese gold 2 Shu "Tenpō Nishukin" coin is from the Edo period.
The obverse features Kiri crests at the top and the value "二朱" (2 Shu) in the centre, all encased within a dotted border.
Crafted by the esteemed engraver Shozaburo Mitsutsugu, this coin showcases intricate Chinese characters in traditional script.
The reverse bears the mint official's characters "光次" (Mitsutsugu) and his signature, also enclosed in a dotted border.
Minted at Kinza in Edo, modern-day Tokyo.
